HEAD COACH SARAH MATTHEWS

Sarah Mathews enters her third season as the head women's basketball coach. In the 2022-23 campaign, the Quakers went 20-6 overall with a conference record of 13-5 with an ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals appearance. Her first season, Guilford went 8-17 with an ODAC record of 5-13 as it went 1-1 in the ODAC Tournament. She had coached two All-ODAC selections for the Quakers.

At Guilford, she had garnered a record of 27-23 while going 17-18 in league play. She has coached two All-ODAC selections along with an ODAC Player of the Year (Lindsay Gauldin, 2022-23). Overall, Mathews has compiled a record of 103-90 over the course of her career.

Mathews was hired on as the 10th head women's basketball coach history in September 2021. Mathews joins Guilford after spending the last four seasons leading the program at Bridgewater College.

She has also served in the same capacity for three seasons at NCAA Division III Keuka College, going 31-40. Prior to her stint in Central New York, Mathews served as the assistant at DII Eckerd College and the Director of Basketball Operations at D1 Elon University.

In her final season with the Eagles, one that was cut short due to COVID, Mathew's squad was 4-0. She had two athletes to All-State and All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams.

Throughout her career she has coached one ODAC Defensive Player of the Year, one D3hoops.com All-Region honoree, two First Team Academic All-Americans and nine All-Conference honorees.

Her coaching career kicked off here in Guilford County as she served as the assistant coach at Guilford Technical Community College during the 2010-11 season. With her help, the Titans went 29-3, while winning the Region X Championship.

Mathews transferred to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro after receiving her associate's degree of science from Mohawk Valley Community College. As a student-athlete at MVCC, she was named a 2006 National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) First Team All-American, also garnering an Academic All-American title.

Mathews graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a bachelor of science in physical education. Sarah and her husband Bryan have two sons, Macson and Tyson, and one daughter, JJ.
